H UMOUR – An e-mail from Skipper Spice giving details of forthcoming sails reminded us that 'en suites are fully booked but plenty of room in dormitories, corridors and the like.
Please bring sleeping bags.'
FITNESS – With my training partner keeping tabs on my progress, I have been up and down the 'steps of death', as they are known locally, like a yo-yo! These are
365 steps up Bukit Subok, a hill which rises 226 metres pretty steeply. Completing several rounds of the 1.3km walk makes for a very good workout in 28 degrees Centigrade! My apologies go to the forestry warden who was
hacking away at the bamboo yesterday. It was early in the morning and he almost jumped out of his skin seeing this unlikely apparition!
GRIFFIN SHIELD – That's today's race from one RBYC
clubhouse to another, Serasa to Kota Batu, and one of my favourites. Perhaps that's one of the reasons that I'm looking forward to the Global Challenge because on each leg we arrive in a different place to where we
started!
PACKING UP – That's what I should be doing, packing up the house to leave Brunei in three weeks' time, but sailing has come first for quite a while now.

- I realise that what started out as a means to keep friends and family informed about the race and my preparations for it, has turned into a full-blown, time-consuming, albeit very enjoyable hobby, as if I needed another!
