GUYS – When I became a Crew Volunteer, I became a 'guy'. 'Boys and girls' would be too much of a
wonderfully typical British understatement for a mixed group of sailors whose average age is 35, and 'ladies and gents' would be far too formal. So there it is, until June 2001, I am happily destined to be a 'guy' every
time the call goes out for crew action. More about this on the Placement page.
BOAT SHOW – The glitz and excitement of the crew announcements at the Boat Show on 8th
January will be a far cry from the harsh reality of how seriously difficult sailing can sometimes be. Having completed three of my training sails in UK Decembers, I have had a very good taste of fierce winds and the freezing cold, nausea and cooking when heeled over at 30 degrees. This Christmas Day, having eaten well and surrounded by family and friends, I found myself thinking ahead to 25
th December, 2000, when, at sea en route to Wellington, the celebration of Christmas is sure to be quite a different event.
Meanwhile, I wonder how Jack and Tiger are back in sunny Brunei? |
