RADIO STAR -  Well, a micro-star for a moment anyway. On 22nd November I was on local radio in East Kent, UK. I wonder if anyone who knows me at home was listening to CTFM, a Canterbury radio station. I did the interview by phone, such a clear line too, considering that we were 6,000 miles apart!

SKIPPERS - Last week, the twelve skippers were announced. Among them are two 26 year olds, two ladies and two Australians. Now that they are getting over the euphoria of being the few so rigorously selected from so many, what are they thinking? Are they spending their days considering how to mould their, as yet unknown, crew of seventeen into a cohesive, competitive team?

SPONSORSHIP - Nothing ventured, nothing gained. With help from my employer, CfBT Education Services, I have approached a number of local companies to see if they are interested to support me in the adventure to come.

SPOT THE DOG - A dog bone was the shape of last Sunday's racing off Serasa. It turned out to be another great day on the water.  Even though the origin of the Spot the Dog Memorial Trophy is still under dispute, this was insufficient to prevent the great numbers of dinghies, (including  Optimists, Lasers, Javelins and ISOs, a Mirror and a Fireball) having a good time in the fresh wind. Yours truly spent at least ten seconds helming upside-down with head under the water when a footstrap parted company with the hull. With my feet trapped far above my head,  the ISO continued sailing all the while, my crew momentarily  oblivious to my sub-aqua calls for help! After recovering from the inescapable capsize, minus my visor and one shoe, the show went on - what else?

First, like this........

.......and then like this!

INVIGILATION - With the fierce sun beating down outside, it was 30 degrees centigrade in the shade at 9 am and the 'O' level Additional Maths was in full flow. There I was standing in front of one of the many fans trying to keep cool, being vigil but with my mind wandering off now and again. I was hearing the wind whistling past my ears at sea, literally feeling  the breeze rush past my face and  mentally rehearsing the procedure for putting in a reef - but then, back to reality, a hand went up,  a student needed more paper.
